Why You Shouldn’t Overlook Engine Issues

Car mechanich inspects and fixes an engine for a car

We’ve all put off repairs before—from cracked glass to small dents, some repairs don’t feel urgent. Problems with your engine, though, should never be put off. Your engine is the heart of your car. No engine, no movement. If you wouldn’t overlook an issue with your heart, there’s no reason to overlook one with your car’s engine. In this article, we’ll touch on possible engine problems and why they should be addressed immediately.

Low/Bad Engine Oil

As you may already know, engine oil is what lubricates your engine. Your engine, assuming it’s a traditional combustion engine, uses oil so the components can move properly. Not changing your oil or not having enough can be massively detrimental to your engine. You can damage parts of your engine, and potentially cause it to seize up on the road. This is a dangerous situation that could be avoided by a simple oil change.

Worn Spark Plug

Your spark plug is what ignites the gas in your engine. A weak spark plug can cause damage to your engine by failing to ignite or misfiring. This tiny component is extremely important and may need to be replaced in your car’s lifetime.

Faulty Compression

The spark plug, as stated earlier, provides the ignition for the engine. It specifically ignites compressed gas and air, but bad compression can mess up this process. Compression issues can be a result of a number of issues, like worn piston rings, air leaks, or bad cylinders.

Mechanical Failures

The engine is made of hundreds of components. Rods, bearings, pins, rings, cylinders, and many more pieces all work together to make your car go. If any of these pieces fail, it could cause a chain reaction of failures. If you notice any issues with your engine, addressing them early may prevent more issues down the line.
