8 Car Improvements To Make In Quarantine

Due to the COVID19 pandemic, people are spending more and more time indoors. As a result, people are trying to find ways to pass the time and stay productive in these strange and precarious times. At Sergio Lewis Body Shop, we thought that this would be a great time to make improvements to your vehicle.

Since you are likely at home anyway, why not make those improvements you’ve been putting off and experiment with new ones? In our latest blog, we detail some of the best improvements you can make while you’re social distancing!

Better Tires & Rims

One of the most common improvement mistakes we see people make is not prioritizing their tires and rims. Even the most powerful car is most limited by the tires it has. This is because the tires are the point of contact with the ground—the power must go through the tires to translate into movement. If your tires have no traction, your acceleration, speed, and handling will all suffer.

That doesn’t mean you have to spring for the most expensive tires and rims you can find either. Simply look for tires that have more performance than your current ones, and check out reviews to see if they hold up in use. You’ll see improvements across the board with this one change.

Upgrade Your Brake Set-Up

Another amazing improvement you can make is to improve your brakes. Your brakes turn kinetic energy into heat, locking up the tires so you can stop. The better your braking system, the more energy your brakes can absorb before they fail.

Improving your brake setup is key to improving your braking performance at high speeds especially, like on the highway or if you take your car to the track. As you could guess, though, your brakes are only as good as the tires you have, so be sure to get good tires to help your braking.

Invest In New Windshield Wipers

Although it doesn’t rain too often in El Paso, improving your windshield wipers is one of the most simple improvements you can make. It only takes a few minutes to replace them, and they can help keep your vision clear while you drive in the rain. It may not be the most exciting improvement, but it could help keep you safe.

Get Brighter Headlights

In the same vein as the windshield wipers, getting better headlights could make driving much safer down the road. Often, people ride with dirty or dim headlights, compromising their ability to react to things in the road. It will only take a few minutes to change, and they can save you from a major accident down the road.

Replace Your Air Filter

If you can’t remember the last time you replaced your air filter, now may be the time to do it. Your air filter is actually very important, trapping debris from damaging internal engine components. Parts of your engine like the cylinders and pistons are kept safe in part because of the air filter, which can keep your engine running longer.

In addition, replacing your air filter can improve your fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, making it a quick improvement that helps your vehicle tremendously.

Find A Strut Tower Brace Kit and Sway Bars

You may be wondering, “what is a strut tower brace kit?” Well, they connect the struts on your car, which incorporate most of the parts of your suspension. By connecting the struts, the chassis will flex less during cornering and make your vehicle handle better.

Sway bars connect the suspension to the body of the vehicle, which keeps the car from rolling in corners. They aren’t too complicated to add, and they can make taking corners that much more fun. If you’re looking for a relatively cheap way to make your vehicle sporty, these two additions are a step in the right direction.

Change Your Exhaust System

Ever heard the roar of a well-tuned muscle car? While the engine may have had something to do with the sound, the exhaust probably played a large part in creating that hair-raising timbre. Exhaust system changes can be a little more complex than some of the other suggestions on this list, but they can help with power delivery and fuel efficiency.

Simple Interior Changes

Not all the changes to your vehicle have to be performance-enhancing. Some of the changes can be simple interior ones intended to make your car more unique and personal. Small changes like a steering wheel cover, new shift knob, improved stereo system, and more can make a world of difference as you drive.

Like other items on our list, we recommend you start small and work your way up until you finally have an interior that is completely tailored to you.
