Get Your RV Ready for the Summer!

RVThe unofficial summer is here! Memorial weekend is often considered the unofficial start of summer. It’s when the grill gets dusted off, the pool is looking sparkling clean, and you’ve set aside time for unwinding outdoors.

If your summer plans include a road trip in the RV, now’s the time to get it ready. It doesn’t take much for one small hitch to turn things upside down, which is why it’s critical to have your RV fully prepared for the road. Keep in mind: if you haven’t driven your RV in quite some time, there may be other areas that require further repairs.

Here’s a list of the most critical parts of your RV that require attention before your big summer road trip:

1- Inspect the Tires

An RV’s tires are prone to cracks, which can literally stop you in your tracks. The pressure should be just right, suitable for the road, and you’ll want to make there are no cracks between the threads.

2- Make Sure All Appliances are Clean

Has it been a while since you last used the appliances in your RV? Make sure to have them inspected, especially before turning them on. You’ll want to look for any debris, nests, spider webs, insects, or small critters who may have made your RV their home. For safety reasons, it’s best to have a professional mechanic inspect your appliances.

3- Check Your Battery

It’s always wise to have your battery inspected before a big road trip. Even if your engine hasn’t stopped working, you’ll want to ensure the battery has a full life ahead of itself. Once the battery is tested, you’ll know whether it will make it to and from your destination.

4- Generator Running?

Getting the generator going can be tricky. Often times, a lack of fuel in the lines will prevent the generator from starting. However, a professional will be able to get the generator cranked and started in no time. This will allow you to also know whether your oil level is good. Additionally, you’ll want to check the air filters and make sure they don’t require replacement.

5- Test Water Pipes and Lines

Next, come the water pipes and lines. Before filling your RV with water, make sure the hot water heater bypass valve is set to the right position and all of the faucets are closed. It’s recommended to fill up your tank with the water from a local fill-up station that provides fresh water. Knowing whether your lines are running is also important to the generator.
